Biofilms

Chronic wounds often possess bacterial biofilms that are difficult to eradicate with oral antibiotics or topical antiseptics. Inflammatory responses to bacterial biofilms lead to elevated proteases that destroy proteins that are essential for healing. Clinical approaches to removing biofilms and preventing reformation will be discussed.
